Woodstream No/No Cardinal Feeder, Red

We purchased this feeder for, naturally, feeding cardinals. Right now there are four cardinals outside my window under our bird feeding pole, which combines a tube feeder on one side and this feeder on the opposite side. They pay no attention to the "cardinal feeder," exactly as they have done for the several months we've had it. (Of course it is filled with black sunflower seed, as recommended.)

This feeder is well-made, and other birds feed from it a bit. But they prefer the tube feeder, which gets emptied easily 10 times faster than this feeder.

The cardinals in the catalog picture of the feeder are half the size of our cardinals here in upstate NY. Are there such diminutive cardinals somewhere? I think probably the feeder is too small for full-sized cardinals.

At any rate, this unit fails the reason for buying it, and we hardly needed a barely useful feeder for tube-feeding birds. So, 1 star for function and an additional star for build quality.
