Novelty White Countryside Flowerbox

I purchased several of these Countryside 36" Windowbox Planters to put on my deck. They are a disappointment. Unfortunately, if you use them as is, you'll have great trouble with these planters. There are only two (2) 1/4" holes drilled in the bottom of the planter with a plug which is removed for outdoor use. Even after you remove the plug and fill with planting mix, these planters just won't drain! You'll have a soupy mud mess as I did! After much aggravation, I found the only thing that made the planters drain freely was to drill a total of six (6) 5/8" holes in the bottom of the window planter box, cover the holes with just a bit of Pebbles (make sure they're large enough that they don't plug up the hole) then fill with a high grade potting mix. Only then, will the water drain out properly.
In addition, the boxes come with a plastic holder in the middle which snaps in; to keep the window box from bowing out when full. Mine broke. If this happens to you, just get an electrical tie to hold the box together. The ties are also great to assure that the boxes don't accidentally fall off the railing.
Next year, I'm just going to bite the bullet and purchase some expensive PVC window boxes and be done with all this.
